GLAD ForceFlex® Odor Shield® trash bags combine two proprietary technologies to provide stretchable strength and odor neutralization. They use a proprietary plastic technology known as SELFING (Structurally Elastic-Like Film.) The plastic is deeply embossed with a diamond-like pattern that gives the material unique elasticity. Pressure is diverted away from the point of impact so that the trash bag will absorb force and stretch instead of breaking. The pattern isn't made from thicker plastic - it's made from "smarter plastic" that allows the bag to stretch around objects instead of letting them poke through. This technology was originally developed for the diaper manufacturing and feminine protection products industries. GLAD ForceFlex® Odor Shield® bags also utilize Odor Shield® proprietary technology that neutralizes negative trash odors and leaves behind a fresh clean scent.

GLAD Trash Bags are nationally available at grocery stores and mass merchandisers such as Wal-Mart, KMart and Target, and several Club, Dollar and Home Center stores.

All GLAD Trash Bags (Drawstring, Handle-Tie®, Quick-Tie® and Sure Tie™) are made from 100% polyethylene. No GLAD Trash Bags contain plasticizers.

GLAD Trash Bags are not biodegradable. The trash bags are intended to be disposed in a landfill and landfills are built to inhibit biodegradation. The important issue with landfills is their decreasing number and limited capacity. To reduce the amount of plastic going to a landfill, GLAD continually is looking at ways to make the trash bags thinner and stronger. In addition, GLAD will use recycled plastic in their trash bag production when this plastic is available. By using recycled plastic, it helps reduce the amount of plastic that might enter a landfill.

GLAD Trash Bags are made from polyethylene. This substance is 100% recyclable, and nearly all of the scrap generated in a film plant is reclaimed in this way. However, the cost of collecting and cleaning these bags after they have been used is prohibitive, so we don't have any post-consumer-use reclamation and recycling program in place at this time.

The only type of our garbage and trash bags that is currently approved for food storage is the GLAD Small Garbage Bag (4 gallon capacity). This is clearly indicated on each carton.

Our other trash and garbage products are made from plastic resins that are not recommended for food storage use. Of course, the resin used for GLAD Food Storage Bags has been approved by the FDA for contact with foods.
